Standing

S

"Standing" is a term used in economic evaluation which refers to the perspective covered in the methodology. In other words, this means whose costs and benefits will be included in the analysis. Generally, there are three main perspectives covered in economic evaluations.

  1. Private perspective, which only takes the private owner/organization’s costs and benefits into account.

  2. Agency/government perspective, which focuses on the costs and savings to an agency, non-profit organization, or government. It does not take broader social impacts into account.

  3. Social perspective, which looks at the costs and benefits to all members of society. These types of economic evaluations are typically conducted by or for government or social agencies.
