Mixed methods refer to the use of one data collection strategy to explain or explore another. Mixed methods typically uses both qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation. There are two common types of mixed methods designs.

Exploratory mixed methods, first collects and analyzes qualitative data to inform what quantitative data to capture.

Explanatory mixed methods collects qualitative data to explain the outcomes achieved in earlier quantitative data analysis.
