Applied research

Applied research is research done with the goal of applying the results to a specific real-world problem. For example, applied research might look at the effect of different methods of law enforcement on crime rates, with the goal of reducing crime. Usually the research questions are determined not by the researchers, but by policy-makers or managers who are looking for solutions to a problem. Evaluation research is a type of applied research.
